The Importance of Safety Clothing and Related Protective Clothing

The law requires employers whose workplaces contain inherent hazards to protect their employees by providing personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary. Here you’ll find a comprehensive selection of safety wear clothing, including coveralls, boots, hi-viz, hairnets, and more. We keep a large inventory of products from various brands to ensure customers can make the right choice.

One of the most common categories of safety clothing is the coverall. This is a full-body garment that shields the body from dangerous chemicals, liquids, and substances. They come in different styles and levels of security depending on the situation. Some will have tight cuffs to seal the insides of the sleeps, some have shoe covers built in, some have hoods or a combination of features. They can be made of a variety of materials, from serged seam fabric that can shut out particles as small as a single micron, to anti-microbial and flame-retardant fabrics designed for particular situations.

High-visibility safety clothing (or hi-viz) is becoming increasingly vital for hazardous work zones. It allows everyone to be easily located in a busy or crowded work situation, and prevent accidents by alerting equipment operators and drivers of a worker’s presence. Hi-viz garments can be t-shirts, vests, and jackets. Different colors can be used in various configurations to indicate rank or visually identify members of a particular team, and reflective striping is also available on some garments.

There are also smaller garments and accessories for protecting the head and limbs. Hairnets and removable sleeves are often required for food processing and similar jobs. For the face, we carry a variety of winter liners to protect the face from the bitter cold. Some of these are flame-retardant, for workers in both cold weather and flammable environments.

Hard hat

Hard hats are an essential piece of protective equipment. They shield workers from falling objects and potential head injuries. Coupled with safety vests, which provide visibility and identification, workers can stay protected and easily identified in busy construction zones. Safety vests, available in both long sleeve and short sleeve options, often come equipped with reflective tape. This reflective material increases visibility, especially in low light conditions, ensuring that workers can be seen from a distance.

ANSI Class 3

Workers in high-risk environments, such as construction sites or busy roadways, are required to wear ANSI Class 3 reflective safety vests for enhanced visibility and protection, the importance of staying safe cannot be overstated. With heavy machinery, potential hazards, and high-risk activities, it is crucial to always prioritize safety. This begins with proper safety gear, including hard hats, safety vest, and high visibility clothing. Construction equipment can be dangerous if not used correctly, making adherence to safety protocols even more crucial. Employers should emphasize the importance of workplace safety, providing comprehensive training and reinforcing safety practices regularly. By establishing a culture of safety, workers become more aware of potential hazards and take proactive measures to prevent accidents.

Hi vis

Hi vis safety jackets are another crucial component of safety gear. These jackets are designed to be easily noticeable, even from afar, due to their high visibility colors and reflective materials. They are particularly effective in busy construction sites or areas with heavy traffic. Wearing hi vis safety jackets reduce the risk of accidents by ensuring workers are easily spotted by vehicle operators and fellow workers.

In conclusion, safety should be the top priority in any workplace, particularly in high-risk environments such as construction sites. Hard hats, safety vests, long and short sleeve reflective tape, hi vis safety jackets, and high visibility clothing play a crucial role in safeguarding workers. By adhering to safety regulations, providing appropriate training, and fostering a culture of safety, employers can protect their workforce and reduce the risk of accidents and injuries. Remember, when it comes to staying safe, there is no room for compromise.

How to maintain your high visibility cloth?

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean your high visibility clothing regularly according to the care instructions provided by the manufacturer. Most high visibility garments can be machine washed, but it's essential to check the specific washing instructions.
  • Separate Washing: Wash high visibility clothing separately from other garments to avoid potential color bleeding or transfer. This is particularly important if your clothing has fluorescent or contrasting colors.
  • Use Mild Detergent: Use a mild detergent that is suitable for the fabric type of your high visibility clothing. Harsh chemicals or bleach can damage the fabric and reduce its visibility.
  • Avoid Fabric Softeners: Avoid using fabric softeners or dryer sheets, as they can leave residue on the fabric and diminish the reflective or fluorescent properties. These substances may also interfere with the fabric's breathability.
  • Gentle Washing Cycle: Select a gentle or delicate cycle on your washing machine to minimize the wear and tear on the fabric. Avoid using high temperatures or vigorous agitation that could damage the garment.
  • Hang Dry or Low Heat: Whenever possible, hang your high visibility clothing to dry naturally. If using a dryer, set it to a low heat setting. High temperatures can potentially damage the reflective or fluorescent elements of the fabric.
  • Avoid Ironing: In general, it's best to avoid ironing high visibility clothing. If necessary, use a low-heat setting or consider ironing the garment inside-out to protect the reflective or fluorescent elements.
  • Inspect for Damage: Regularly inspect your high visibility clothing for any signs of damage, such as tears, fraying, or fading. If you notice any issues, consider replacing the garment to maintain its effectiveness.
  • Store Properly: Store your high visibility clothing in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause fading or degradation of the fabric's visibility properties over time.
  • Follow Safety Regulations: Familiarize yourself with any specific guidelines or regulations related to the maintenance of high visibility clothing in your industry or region. Different safety standards may apply, and adherence to these guidelines ensures optimal visibility and safety.
